Telecom giant Verizon experienced an outage for more than three hours Wednesday morning. Thousands of Americans were unable to use their smartphones and the internet or call local police stations.

Customers reported problems around 6 am ET, and Verizon informed DailyMail.com the issues were fixed by 9:30 am ET. The Verizon outage occurred when many Americans woke up or commuted to the office, leaving them without communication.

What caused the glitch is not yet known. DownDetector, a site that monitors online outages, showed that 57 percent of reported problems are with mobile phones, 25 percent with mobile internet, and 19 percent said no signal is available.

A live issue map showed the outage was plaguing the eastern coast of the US, hitting major cities like New York City, Washington DC, and Boston, Massachusetts. While DownDetector shows problems started around 8 am, users reported being without internet service at 6 am.

A Verizon customer in Philadelphia shared on X at 8:20am: ‘Verizon what’s going on with my WiFi it’s been down for almost 2 hours and when I try to get someone on the phone, it’s an hour wait to speak to someone.’

A Tennessee police station in Bartlett notified residents that the outage is impacting their ability to receive calls – but 911 calls are going through.

Meanwhile, An unexplained outage at Chase Bank led to interruptions for users of the Zelle payment network, who took to social media to complain.

Zelle said on Twitter that its network is functioning normally and pointed a finger at Chase, saying the bank was experiencing trouble with payment processing.

“The rest of the Zelle network is up and running,” it tweeted. “Chase is one of our partner banks, and as such, is in full control of the Zelle feature in their app.”

Chase issued a statement noting that it was “working to restore full service to account transfers, Zelle payments and bill payments,” but offered no details regarding the cause of the service outage or its expected duration.

According to DownDetector, a site that collects user outage reports, both services experienced service problems starting around 10 a.m. EDT on Tuesday. The problem remained unresolved 12 hours later, although DownDetector data suggested that its severity had tapered off significantly.
