(ETH) – Things are spiraling out of control in Philadelphia following the fatal shooting of a Black man by police allegedly armed with a knife on the western side of Philadelphia. The incident has sparked an explosion of violent protests overnight, leaving at least 30 officers reported injured on early Tuesday – including one sergeant who was run over by a pick-up truck.

The streets were filled with hundreds of people protesting the Monday afternoon shooting of 27-year-old Walter Wallace Jr., calling it another example of police officers killing a Black man according to the report from Fox News. The report stated that demonstrators were seen marching to a city police station while officers lined up behind metal barricades.

So far there have been at least 35 people, including five juveniles, that has been arrested over the course of the night, according to a Philadelphia Police Department spokesperson in an email to Fox News. The arrests resulted in five firearms being recovered according to police.

Demonstrations quickly turned violent throwing objects at officers and at least one police vehicle was set on fire. The violence resulted in at least thirty officers being injured, most of them from being struck by projectiles such as bricks and rocks, including a 56-year-old sergeant who was hospitalized in stable condition with a broken leg and other injuries after being struck by a pickup truck, while the other injured officers were treated and released, police said.
