(ETH) – A strong magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck off the coast of California at 11:55 p.m. on Sunday 177 miles from Eureka, California followed by a magnitude 5.5 that was later downgraded to a magnitude 5.0 by the USGS according to a report from the Los Angeles Times.

The first of the two quakes struck further than 100 miles from a city followed by the second quake a few minutes later that was recorded 26 miles from Fortuna, which is just south of Eureka. These quakes follow the powerful magnitude-6.4 earthquake that struck in a remote western area of Nevada near the notorious “Area 51” early on Friday that was felt even in Utah.
