(News Channel 9) – The family of a 77-year-old grandmother says the woman died from a flesh-eating bacteria infection after cutting her leg while visiting a Florida beach. According to FOX 13 Tampa Bay, Lynn Fleming was visiting Coquina Beach with her son and his family when she fell into a little depression on the beach and suffered a small cut on her leg.

After failing to heal over the next few days, Fleming was found unconscious days later and diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis. Ten days after being taken to the hospital, the family says Fleming died from the infection. FOX 13 reports the woman suffered two strokes and sepsis during surgeries which hoped to save her leg.
