(Express) – Rome has been struck by an earthquake which was felt throughout the Italian capital at approximately 9.45pm BST on Sunday night. Reports claim that the earthquake was measured at around 3.7 on the Richter scale. Meteorologist Marco M.M. wrote on Twitter: “There has been a 3.7 magnitude earthquake near Rome. “It was felt in the city and in the Alban hills zone.” Witnesses in Rome took to social media to speak of their shock at the earthquake, which has been described as minor. Teacher Alexandra Turney tweeted:
“Thank god I was on the ground floor and didn’t feel it too badly, though it gave me a fright. “It’s awful when you’re on a higher floor. “Apparently it’s actually 3.7. “Still bad enough. Not what you want right before going to bed.” The Richter scale suggests earthquakes of that size are “often felt by people” but it says that they “rarely cause damage” but the “shaking of indoor objects can be noticeable”.
