(Express) – Donald Trump has ordered US officials to begin preparations to impose multi-billion pound tariffs on Chinese imports. The US President had vowed to impose the mammoth tariffs on all remaining imports from China after a major fallout between the two countries. In a statement, United States Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said the value of products subject to the new round of tariffs is approximately $300 billion.

He added that details on the process and comment period for the tariffs would be published soon in the Federal Register. More details would be available on the USTD’s website, the statement added. Trump announced his plan to more than double duties on imports from 10 percent to 25 percent last weekend. The Chinese Commerce Ministry responded by saying it “deeply regrets” the move and warned it would take “necessary countermeasures”. READ MORE
