Footage of missile system confirmed Thursday; Russian Defense Ministry makes no comment on its presence in Syria despite Russia’s gradual military withdrawal. A Russian Iskander-M transporter erector launcher, the most advanced tactical missile system, was deployed to Syria, with visual confirmation made on Thursday when the Iskander was photographed in footage by the Russian television channel Zvezda.

The surface-missile system is capable of carrying nuclear warheads and is designed to penetrate ground-bases missile defense systems. With a range of 500 kilometers, the system is able to neutralize artillery and air defense batteries, a threat to Israel’s defense missile systems. The missile system was spotted at the Humaymim Air Base in Syria. While Russia has claimed its withdrawal of Russian forces from Syria, the deployment of the advanced missile system does not fall into line with its military withdrawal. FULL REPORT
