(ETH) – A magnitude 5.9 earthquake has reportedly struck Southwestern Iran according to Iranian state television that reportedly alerted residents on its broadcast, A second aftershock followed measuring a magnitude of 4.5 as well.

According to the USGS, The larger quake took place at the port city of Bandar Genaveh at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) around 100 kilometers (60 miles) from Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant.

According to CBN, back in 2003, a magnitude 6.6 earthquake leveled the historic city of Bam, killing over 26,000 people, and a magnitude 7 earthquake striking western Iran in 2017 killing more than 600 people and injured more than 9,000.
