(ETH) – Over 150 earthquakes have rocked Spain since December, leading some experts to warn that a larger quake could come at any moment. According to the report from Express-News, There have been more than 150 earthquakes that have transpired in the Granada province of Spain since December 2020.

The aftershocks have reportedly caused little damage so far and Spain’s National Geographic Institute (IGN) has reportedly prepared a report on the 156 quakes since December 1st. The largest quake struck on January 23rd with a magnitude of 4.4 that was registered.

This particular quake produced 90 aftershocks leading many to wonder how long this sequence of earthquakes will last. Spain’s IGN organization recently said: “So far, some non-structural damage has been registered. “The damage has been such things as cracks in the plaster, as well as numerous falling objects in various buildings within the epicentral area”, as well as Spain’s National Seismic Network warning:

“Earthquakes cannot be predicted. “The most probable thing and this is shown by the data we are collecting, is that small earthquakes will occur during the next few days. “What will then happen is that seismic activity will decrease. “However, we cannot assure it because at any moment there could be a bigger one”

The National Seismic Network has also emphasized that “the most probable thing is that there will be aftershocks and that these tend to decrease in magnitude”. Back in 2010, this particular region experienced a 6.3 magnitude earthquake but one of the largest earthquakes that have ever taken place was back in 1954 when the region was struck by a magnitude of 7.8.
