(ETH) – Record-breaking wildfires in the state of California have turned the moon blood-red from the massive smoke rising into the atmosphere according to local meteorologists in the region.

One individual named Igor A. Chicherin recently captured a timelapse video on Instagram, which revealed a creepy crimson moon rising over Mount Shasta on Sept. 30th. The blood moon was also visible outside the Golden State as well as wildfires that impacted the western United States. California isn’t the only state that has seen this blood moon effect.

Recently we reported on this happening in Washington State as well. Another reporting of this came from Dylan Robichaud, who is a meteorologist in Eugene, Oregon, also reported on Sept. 30 that the moon “appeared orange this morning due to the smoke in the upper atmosphere from the California fires.”

Deadly Wildfires continue to scorch millions of acres in the western United States, shattering records for most acres burned in one year, with more than 4 million acres charred. The massive smoke from this event has reached as far as the Midwest and Northeast with the jet stream and upper-level wind flowing able to transport the smoke, bringing Michigan residents a murky haze in the sky in September.
