(ETH) – More than 100 Boko Haram militants have reportedly slaughtered multitudes of Christians and have set churches and houses on fire in the town of Garkida in Gombi area of the northeastern state of Adamawa. The tragic report is indicating that at least five churches have been burned to the ground, including two houses of worship belonging to the Church of the Brethren denomination, an Anglican Communion church.

There are also unconfirmed reports of possible abductions according to the Christian Post.  According to locals, the scene of the attacks was described as men Riding on about 60 motorbikes, with two men each carrying AK47s and RPGs, and accompanied by roughly 20 mounted gun trucks, arriving from the Sambi a Forest area on Friday evening.

The Nigerian security forces initially attempted to fight off the attackers but had to retreat for reinforcement. Then the militants moved on to neighboring towns and carried out attacks there.  “Garkida is currently on fire … many people have been killed and their houses covered with smoke,” TheCable quoted a source as saying. “People ran to hide inside the mountains while they watched their houses being burnt by the insurgents,” a resident added.
