ABC – Over the Christmas Eve and Christmas holiday, much was lost or damaged around the Grand Strand as Horry County Fire Rescue reported more than 200 calls for service. Some of those calls involved a deadly accident, as well as multiple structure fires. It’s one fire that scorched a Socastee shed, however, that stands out. It’s not because of what caught fire, but what survived it.

A security camera going off around 11:00 p.m. Christmas Eve alerted the McGowan’s that their shed was up in flames. Louis McGowan went into action, but he soon learned this fire was out of his control. “They were here in less than 10 minutes,” said McGowan. Before crews from HCFR Station 1 and others arrived, McGowan was able to save his motorcycle and attempted to move his trailer adjacent to the inflamed building.
