(OPINION) ETH – When I study the life of Elijah the Prophet and the timing of when he came on the scene to confront the evil and wicked rule and reign of Ahab and Jezebel as well as confronting a generation of compromise, I can’t help but see by the Spirit of the Lord that God is raising up not just a single man in this hour, but an entire generation that will be a “Last Days” remnant that will have the same spirit and zeal as Elijah and not coward down but confront the evil of our day! The following are five traits of Elijah that I believe will be seen again.

1- Elijah showed up to Ahab during a severe famine in the land.
Elijah the prophet appeared during a time of political tyranny and great wickedness from the leadership, and its administration in power. When we take a look at the parallel of this with the current administration and even what may be coming down the road, we can see a scary pattern taking place.

Elijah was manifest to confront the powers that be and bring the nation back to the living God! It doesn’t take anyone with a lot of discernment and spiritual insight to know that we have encountered and, could very well continue to encounter a famine of another Great Awakening, or outpouring, of God’s Spirit on a national level.

The churches of America are now full of entertainment, dead sermons, and complacent saints operating in no power or apostolic anointing. Our churches are getting bigger and bigger while the signs and wonders are diminishing quickly, emphasizing what the apostle Paul said in 2 Timothy 3:5, that the last day’s churches would have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof and from such turn away.

This last-days Elijah generation is going to rise in the midst of this great spiritual drought and prepare the way of the Lord with an uncompromising message of repentance followed by demonstration and power! They will declare with authority “thus sayeth the Lord” to the nation that has turned its back on God.

2- Real prophets and people of God who spoke in the name of the Lord were persecuted
Jezebel massacred the prophets of the Lord in the time of Elijah, and today we see a great attack on the modern-day prophets and people of God who speak anything negative or deemed to be offensive. Ministers are now told not to preach on hell, repentance, and even sin because it will turn members away from the church, resulting in fear and intimidation to ministers of the gospel to preach the gospel with fire and conviction. But this last-days army God is raising up will preach as Elijah and John the Baptist, with fire and conviction, with “thus saith the Lord!” and will not be concerned with the consequences it may have.

3- Obadiah feared the Lord and reserved a remnant of God’s prophets.
There will be a remnant of God’s people that will still respect the office of the prophet and fear the Word of the Lord. Today we are witnessing an unprecedented level of compromise in the body of Christ with churches lowering the standard and watering down the message resulting in the use of all forms of silly entertainment with the hopes of attracting people. These churches are void of the Holy Spirit, conviction, and the power of God!

America has now embraced major false religions and their gods while rejecting and condemning those who represent the one true God! Later on in the story of Elijah, the Lord reveals to the prophet that there was a remnant of God’s people that had not bowed their knees to the false gods of Baal. There is and will be a remnant of God’s people that will not bow to the false gods of the devil and will serve the true God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The time of separating the wheat from the chaff, the sheep from the goat has come to the body of Christ.

4- Elijah repaired the altar of the Lord.
The Bible tells us that Elijah repaired the altar of the Lord and today we have come to a time were preaching and church services are entirely different than even 20 years ago. I remember when the altars of the house of God would be full of souls giving their hearts to the Lord and people being delivered and set free. Men and women of God would come hours early to the services and be at the altars in intercession and travail over lost souls who would come through the doors of the church.

Today in many mainline denominations and churches, this is a thing in the past. We have back rooms for prayer and deliverance and even for people receiving salvation, and trying to gather saints to come even 30 minutes before the service to pray is nearly impossible anymore. Thus the altar of the Lord has been torn down. It is the altar where I gave my heart to the Lord; it’s where people are changed and in the Old Testament, it is where the sacrifices of God were made. I believe God is raising up a remnant in this hour that will restore these principles back to the church, a generation that will repair the altar in this hour!

5- Elijah prayed with his face to the Earth seven times.
The Bible says that Elijah prayed for rain seven times while hearing in his spirit the sound of an abundance of rain. And eventually, on the seventh time, the rains fell. This is a picture of this last-days remnant that will be the “rainmakers,” intercessors who will continue to pray in the “latter-day rains,” of God’s presence and power in the last days in the midst of chaos and uncertainty.

The Lord is looking to restore those intercessors like Moses, who stood in the gap for Israel and turned the heart of God when the Lord was about to destroy them. He is looking for an Abraham who will go into the enemy’s camp to save his own bloodline from hell and destruction. He’s looking for an Esther in this hour who is willing to risk it all to save her nation. He’s looking for those who are desperate for revival and awakening in this dark hour of humanity! Do you hear the sound of an abundance of rain coming again?
