A blue moon, a supermoon and a lunar eclipse will all fall on the same night for the first time in more than 150 years this month. The three phenomena will all occur on January 31. And it is also set to be a blood moon, the name given to the moon during a total lunar eclipse when it appears red in color. It is extremely rare for all three lunar events to occur at the same time. The last time a blue moon, a
supermoon and a lunar eclipse all happened at once was on March 31, 1866. The three night-time phenomena also all coincided on December 30, 1982, however, this only applied to the eastern hemisphere. This was due to there not being a blue moon in North America – as this is the name given to the second full moon in a month.
