(by Kelly McDonald, Jr) In the continuing standoff with North Korea, the United States is not backing down. Today, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that all options are on the table, including military strikes. In 2016, North Korea conducted two nuclear tests and 24 missile launches, including 5 ballistic missiles. This past week, North Korea’s dictator warned that he would attack mercilessly if the country’s sovereignty is infringed upon.

The US has been building up its forces in the event of a conflict with the rogue state. The US has deployed attack drones, naval vessels, and missile intercepting system called THAAD.  Presently, the US has 28,000 troops in South Korea. The US is in the process of conducting annual military drills with South Korea; Japan was recently included in these drills to assist in shooting down enemy ballistic missiles.
