A long-standing Confederate monument in Birmingham may soon be removed from Linn Park. The city of Birmingham Park and Recreation board voted unanimously Wednesday to start the process of removing the Confederate Soldier and Sailor monument from Linn Park.

The Board will work with city’s law department to “ensure us that there are no legal impediments to the removing of the monument from Linn Park.” They will then contact the four active chapters of the Daughters of the Confederacy to see if they are willing take ownership of the monument and move it to an “appropriate site” at their expense.
