On April 10, 2025, a small single-engine plane crashed in a residential neighborhood in Boca Raton, Florida, shortly after taking off from Boca Raton Airport around 2 p.m.
The incident occurred near the 600 block of 5th Street, injuring the two people on board—a student pilot and an instructor. No injuries were reported among residents on the ground.
According to the Boca Raton Police Department, the plane, identified as a Cessna 172 operated by ATP Flight School, struck a tree and a fence before coming to a stop in a backyard.
Emergency responders, including police and Boca Raton Fire Rescue, quickly arrived at the scene, and the two occupants were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Their conditions have not been disclosed.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the cause of the crash, with the aircraft sustaining significant damage.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud boom, and one local resident noted that the plane appeared to be struggling before it went down.
The crash site, located in the Boca Square neighborhood near a preschool, prompted a swift response to secure the area, though the school was unaffected.
Police have advised the public to avoid the area as the investigation continues, and officials are working to remove the wreckage. This incident follows another recent crash at the same airport in February, raising concerns about aviation safety in the region.
NTSB reported 286 crashes from the start of January to the end of March in 2024.
The organization declared 50 of those crashes as deadly. Data for the first three months of this year reported 153 crashes, including 23 deadly accidents.
NTSB data proves aviation crash rates are actually down for 2025 compared to the year prior.
