Tri-Union Seafoods has initiated a nationwide voluntary recall of specific canned tuna products due to a manufacturing defect in the “easy-open” pull-tab lids.

Over time, this defect may compromise the product’s seal, potentially leading to contamination with Clostridium botulinum, the bacterium responsible for botulism, a rare but potentially fatal form of food poisoning.

The recall encompasses several brands and has impacted major retailers across the United States:

Botulism is a severe illness that can cause breathing difficulties, muscle paralysis, and even death if not promptly treated.

Symptoms of foodborne botulism may include difficulty swallowing, muscle weakness, double vision, drooping eyelids, blurred vision, slurred speech,

difficulty breathing, and paralysis. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) emphasizes that botulism is a medical emergency requiring immediate attention.

Consumers are advised not to consume the recalled products, even if they appear normal.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends returning the products to the place of purchase for a full refund, disposing of them properly, or contacting Tri-Union Seafoods for a retrieval kit and replacement coupon.

Tri-Union Seafoods can be reached at support@thaiunionhelp.zendesk.com or 833-374-0171, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. However, consumers who have purchased these products are urged to exercise caution and follow the recommended guidelines to ensure their safety.
