A significant winter storm is currently affecting the Southern United States, causing heavy snowfall in Houston and other key metropolitan areas along the Interstate 10 corridor.
This storm has led to the issuance of the first-ever Blizzard Warning for certain parts of the Gulf Coast.
According to Uvalde County Constable Emmanuel Zamora, a serious traffic accident resulting in “several fatalities” occurred early Tuesday morning east of La Pryor, Texas, along Highway 57 in Zavala County.
First responders reported hazardous, slippery road conditions while responding to the incident, and a medical helicopter was unable to assist due to the adverse weather conditions.
Zamora expressed his thoughts for those affected in a Facebook post.
The National Weather Service office in Lake Charles, Louisiana, has indicated that the winter storm is generating blizzard-like conditions in southeastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana, marked by heavy snowfall and wind gusts exceeding 35 mph in the area.
