(OPINION) During the winter of 1811-12, the New Madrid area was struck by a series of the most powerful earthquakes in U.S. history, the largest being a magnitude 8.1 on the Richter scale. The following simulation attempts to recreate the impact in different major cities of a similar scenario that could sometimes repeat in the next 200 – 300 years.
