The World Economic Forum begins on January 16 in Davos GR. The army has already started the preparatory work today. Up to 5000 soldiers are deployed. This year, too, the army is supporting the civilian authorities of the canton of Graubünden in performing security tasks for the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF).
The assistance service of a maximum of 5000 members of the army was approved by parliament for the annual meetings of the WEF 2022 to 2024, as the Defense Department (VBS) writes on its website. In 2023, the meeting will last from January 16th to 20th. Ten days before the start of the forum, the army began construction work in Davos.
Around 3000 international participants from business, politics, science and society are expected at the WEF. The guiding principle for 2023 is “Cooperation in a Fragmented World”. The official guest list is not yet known.
The WEF also causes criticism. So far, two requests for rallies have been received by the community, said Michael Straub, clerk of Davos, on Friday at the request of Keystone-SDA. One comes from the Juso Graubünden, which wants to hold a rally on January 15 on the Davos town hall square.
The “Strike WEF” collective has also submitted an application. “As in 2022 and 2020, we will all hike to Davos together again in January. We are walking against capitalism, against the climate crisis and against the increasing injustice in the world,” writes the collective. According to Straub, the hike from Landquart to Davos is planned for the opening weekend of the WEF. (SDA/shq) (SOURCE)
