(ETH) – China has just accused the US of “flexing its muscles” in the South China Sea following, President Joe Biden sending an aircraft carrier group into the disputed waterway in a move that has triggered Beijing to warn the US could trigger a disastrous war.

According to Express, The state-run Chinese media is claiming the new administration is testing the waters with China to see how far they can be pushed, In regards to both the South China Sea and Taiwan conflict.

This report comes as Chinese jets crossed Taiwan’s air defense zone on both Saturday and Sunday in what is being deemed a clear illustration of heightened tensions in the region which was 15 Chinese aircraft including 12 fighter jets entered the southwestern corner of Taiwan’s air defense identification zone with eight bombers and four fighters doing likewise the previous day.

Meanwhile, the USS Theodore Roosevelt entered the South China Sea over the weekend to promote “freedom of the seas”, the US military announced on Sunday.  Foreign ministry spokesman, Zhao Lijian, told reporters: “The United States frequently sends aircraft and vessels into the South China Sea to flex its muscle.

Rear Admiral Doug Verissimo, commander of the strike group, stated: “After sailing through these waters throughout my 30-year career, it’s great to be in the South China Sea again, conducting routine operations, promoting freedom of the seas, and reassuring allies and partners.

“With two-thirds of the world’s trade traveling through this very important region, it is vital that we maintain our presence and continue to promote the rules-based order which has allowed us all to prosper.” President Xi Jinping has repeatedly warned about US Navy ships entering close proximity to islands it occupies in the South China Sea, where Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei, and Taiwan all have competing claims.
