(OPINION) ETH – A new project capable of creating “deep fake” videos showing public figures making speeches, show the chilling power of advanced technology and you and I should be greatly concerned.
One of the most recent examples of this is a video created by artist Stephanie Lepp who used artificial intelligence to create a puppet of Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and made it “admit” that it’s done damage both to politics and society, saying: “People on our platform have become more prone to hate others, and hating themselves.
“I was naive about Russian interference in the 2016 election, and I’m still being naive about domestic interference in 2020.” Lepp even stated that she would “love to” to make a concession speech from outgoing US President Donald Trump as part of her new project Deep Reckonings.
She even told Daily Star Online it would have “tremendous potential for social value.” She goes on further to say “I believe an extraordinary Trump concession speech has the potential to unify our country in a way few things could.” Then Lepp makes a chilling statement when she said there’s a reason why she hasn’t made a ‘Deep Reckoning’ for Trump yet. She stated:
“I chose protagonists whose reckonings I thought were both possible and socially beneficial,” she says, “which is why I initially refrained from Trump because I don’t think he’s close to a reckoning. “But I have connections I can lean on,” she adds “and may do so after the election.”
Stephanie has done this with a number of other high-profile American personalities though – and admitted to recently using Alex Jones. Stephanie has her deep fake characters admit to being fakes on camera and claims that she has no intention to deceive anyone so much as to show how dangerously easy it is to put words in someone else’s mouth.
So the real question is, what is going to happen if and when this technology gets into the hands of the wrong person or people? Could we one day soon see world leaders making speeches on video that will deceive the masses? We can see a backdrop of this played out in the Book of Revelation Chapter 13, where a man known as the False Prophet will demand the people to create an image or (icon) in the Greek understanding, and this image will both speak and live and deceive the world into worshipping and following the Antichrist and following his Government, he will establish the Earth for a short period of time.
“And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived. He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed’. – Revelation 13:14-15
