(ETH) – A strong 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck off the waters of southern Puerto Rico early on Saturday, morning according to a report from CNN, rattling the city of Ponce. Other quakes registering from 3.4 to 4.9 on the Richter scale have reportedly struck the same area recently. At this time no tsunami advisory has been issued for the region.

According to officials, several buildings in several buildings were damaged in Ponce.  According to the Weather Channel,  The earthquake also caused a road to collapse on Puerto Rico’s southern coast. At least seven other quakes have followed later on this morning, measuring between 2.6 and 4.9 magnitudes. Locals are saying that hundreds of people across the island have reported feeling weak to moderate shaking.
