(News Channel 9) – The USDA says a manufacturer is recalling more than 2 million pounds of chicken due to serious concerns over possible metal contamination. The products were shipped to institutions in eight states, including Georgia and Alabama.

Officials said in a statement Wednesday that the chicken, produced by Simmons Prepared Foods, Inc., may be contaminated by extraneous materials including metal. The USDA lists the health risk as high in this incident, classifying it as a Class 1 Recall. That means this is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.

The voluntary recall affects chicken shipped to restaurants, hospitals and schools in Alabama, Georgia, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania. Officials say the recall involves whole chickens, breasts, wings, legs, quarters, and tenderloins. You can see the list of the product labels involved in our gallery above. READ MORE
