(The Sun) – An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.2 rocked parts of West Cornwall last night. Residents in Helston, Reduth and Falmouth felt their homes shaking and heard a loud boom “like a plane crash” shortly before 6 pm. The British Geological Survey confirmed the quake struck at a depth of 1.7 miles around three miles southwest of Falmouth. A local resident said on Twitter: “Loud bang from beneath (I was sat on the sofa). Windows shook.” Another added: “Down in West Cornwall and it seems we just had an earthquake! Either that or a sonic boom/explosion of some kind.” And a third said: “What the hell was

The whole house shook.” Resident Steve Cowe told Cornwall Live: “We were sat in the living room watching TV and thought it was something crashed into the house or the side of the house, it was that kind of shake. “In seconds everyone came out of their houses on the street or were looking out the windows.” He continued: “We live near Culdrose thought it was an aircraft crash to begin with.
