Heavy monsoon rains and floods affecting the Indian state of Assam over the past week have claimed lives of 14 people by June 19, 2018. 11 people died due to flooding and 3 due to landslides. According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 548,986 people in 719 villages of 6 districts (Nagaon, Hojai, Golaghat, Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj) have been affected.

With all major rivers flowing above danger levels, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel have evacuated 8,201 marooned people from the flood-hit districts of Karimganj, Hailakandi and Cachar. The Government has opened up 437 relief camps in Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj, in which 159,652 flood-hit people are taking shelter.
