Strong 5.3 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Idaho, Felt in Wyoming and Utah

A moderate earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.3 has struck southeast Idaho, with shaking felt across the state lines in Wyoming and Utah, seismologists and residents say. It was preceded by a smaller earthquake. The strongest earthquake, which struck at 5:56 p.m. MT on Saturday, was

centered about 12 miles northeast of Georgetown, or 63 miles southeast of Pocatello. It struck at a depth of 6.2 miles, making it a shallow earthquake. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) put the preliminary magnitude of the earthquake at 5.3.
