Google continues to crack the whip and is working feverishly to improve the quality of its search results by directing a group of employees known as “review teams” to flag content that might be deemed as “upsetting” or “offensive”. According to reports, Any future content with racial slurs could now end up getting flagged under a new category that Google has created called “upsetting-offensive.” Also included in this will be content that promotes “hate” or “violence” against a specific group of people based on gender, race or other criteria. Sources indicate that Google will attempt to suppress
content that is deemed “inaccurate” or has other “questionable attributes”, thereby giving prominence to trustworthy sources. We will let you figure out who those “trustworthy” sources are on your own time. These Google review teams are composed of contractors known as “quality raters” who comb through websites and other content to flag questionable material such as pornography but now Google will be including “upsetting-offensive” in its latest guidelines for quality raters. According to reports, Google declined to comment on the changes, which were reported in the blog Search Engine Land and elsewhere. So what will this look like for the land of “Free Speech”?

Sounds like more fascist control over what should be free speech even if it may be offensive. Let people be free to determine for themselves what is offensive and what is not. We can take it, we’re big boys and girls. We really don’t need a fascist or government filter.
