(By Kelly McDonald, Jr.) A few days ago, the city of Detroit has experienced approximately 800,000 power outages due to severe weather. High winds have been the main culprit for the power outages, with as many as 1,000 outages a minute being reported. Some have labeled it the single greatest weather event in the Detroit’s history.
Over 9,000 powerlines were knocked down, blocking important roadways. A few of the downed lines have caused small fires. As of 9 pm Saturday, March 11, 147,000 customers were still without power. The massive restoration is still under way, with tree cutters and utility crews working round the clock to restore power. The hope is that only 14,700 remain without power by Sunday evening, with those being restored Monday.
