Diplomats begin preparing the groundwork for June conference regarding two-State solution for Israel and Palestine

Diplomats recently gathered at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to prepare for a pivotal international conference scheduled for June 17–20, 2025, aimed at advancing the two-State solution for the Israel-Palestine conflict.

As reported by UN News, this preparatory session brought together UN Member States to align expectations and finalize arrangements for the conference, which seeks to address one of the most enduring conflicts in the Middle East.

The conference, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, is designed to move beyond mere reaffirmation of principles and deliver actionable outcomes.

According to a concept note from the co-chairs, the event will feature eight thematic roundtables focusing on critical aspects of the two-State solution.

These include security arrangements for both Israelis and Palestinians, the economic viability of a Palestinian State, and humanitarian action and reconstruction efforts. The discussions aim to tackle practical challenges and foster concrete progress toward peace.

General Assembly President Philémon Yang emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “The horrors we have witnessed in Gaza for over nineteen months should spur us to urgent action to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”

He underscored that a lasting resolution can only be achieved when Israelis and Palestinians coexist in sovereign, independent states, living side by side in peace, security, and dignity.

This sentiment reflects the conference’s overarching goal of producing an action-oriented outcome document titled “Peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine and implementation of the two-State solution,” as outlined in General Assembly resolution 79/81.

The preparatory meeting follows recent developments, including a December 2024 UN General Assembly session that referenced the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion declaring the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory illegal.

This legal backdrop adds weight to the upcoming conference, which is seen as a critical opportunity to translate international consensus into tangible steps toward a two-State solution.

Posts on X also highlight the event’s significance, noting France’s potential plan to unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state during the conference, though such claims remain unconfirmed.

As global attention turns to the June conference, the international community faces a crucial moment to address the longstanding conflict.

With the UN Secretary-General warning that the two-State solution is nearing a “point of no return,” the stakes are high for diplomats to deliver meaningful progress.

The outcome of this conference could shape the future of peace efforts in the region, offering hope for a resolution that ensures security and sovereignty for both Israelis and Palestinians.
