A former pastor of Preston Trail Community Church in Frisco, Texas, Jim Mustain, was arrested on multiple child pornography charges, according to jail records and statements from the church.
Mustain, aged 64, was booked into the Denton County Jail on May 14, 2025, facing four counts of possession or promotion of lewd visual material depicting a child and one count of possession of child pornography.
Preston Trail Community Church confirmed that Mustain served as a community pastor from 2019 to 2023.
The church issued a statement expressing deep sadness and disturbance over the charges, emphasizing that they had no knowledge of any misconduct related to these allegations during Mustain’s tenure.
Following the arrest, the church promptly hired a third-party law firm to conduct an independent investigation, which found no evidence of illegal or improper activity by Mustain during his time at Preston Trail.
The church also noted that it became aware of impending charges against Mustain on April 24, 2025, and stated there is “no indication that any children connected to Preston Trail were involved or harmed.”
Mustain’s arrest took place in North Carolina, after which he was extradited to Denton County, Texas.
The charges stem from an investigation by the Denton County Sheriff’s Office, which uncovered evidence of child pornography in his possession.
His bond has been set at $500,000, and the Lewisville Police Department continues to investigate the case.
In addition to his role at Preston Trail, Mustain was a volunteer with Lewisville Independent School District (ISD), specifically with student groups at Durham Middle School and Creekside Elementary during the previous school year.
Lewisville ISD confirmed his involvement and has since barred him from all district facilities.
The district sent letters to families involved in the mentoring programs, informing them of Mustain’s arrest and stating there is no indication that any Lewisville ISD students were impacted.
Mustain’s community involvement extended beyond the church and school district.
He founded Loving Community, a Denton County-based nonprofit focused on fostering community relationships, served on the Board of Directors of the Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce, and held a position on the City of Lewisville’s Community Development Block Grant Advisory Committee.
He also had prior pastoral roles, including at Valley Ranch Baptist Church in Coppell, Texas, from 2005 to 2014, and was involved with other Christian organizations such as Christian Community Action and Forge Dallas.
Preston Trail Community Church emphasized its commitment to child safety, stating that it conducts mandatory background checks for staff and volunteers, requires child abuse awareness training, and enforces a strict no one-on-one adult/child policy.
The ongoing investigation by Lewisville Police underscores the seriousness of the charges, and authorities are encouraging anyone with additional information to come forward.
