In his first significant address in Saudi Arabia, President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Iran, emphasizing that the nation faces a choice between forgoing nuclear weapons or confronting serious consequences.
He stated, “If Iran’s leadership rejects the olive branch and continues to attack their neighbors, then we will have no choice but to inflict massive maximum pressure.”
According to Fox News, Trump expressed a desire to negotiate with Iran and hoped to see the country thrive, but he criticized the Iranian regime for causing harm not only to its own citizens but also to the broader region.
He pointed out that the leadership in Iran has prioritized funding terrorism and violence abroad rather than improving the lives of its people. He remarked, “Iran’s leaders have focused on stealing their people’s wealth to fund terror and bloodshed abroad.”
Highlighting the tragic impact of Iranian actions, Trump referenced the involvement of Iran in supporting the Assad regime in Syria and its backing of Hezbollah, attributing significant regional instability to these actions.
He lamented that the “countless lives lost” due to Iran’s interventions were “absolutely avoidable.”
Furthermore, Trump criticized the Biden administration for lifting certain sanctions on Iran, suggesting that this policy contributed to the financing of terrorist organizations like Hamas, which he claims played a role in the attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023.
In his speech, he reiterated a desire for a positive change, stating that he aimed not only to denounce the past actions of Iran’s leadership but also to offer a new direction for a better future.
As he concluded, Trump asserted, “In the case of Iran, I have never believed in having permanent enemies,” suggesting that relationships can evolve and improve over time.
