Televangelist Jim Bakker pleads with viewers to keep him from foreclosure – ‘I’ll Be on the Street’

Televangelist Jim Bakker, a prominent figure in Christian broadcasting, has recently made a public plea for financial assistance to prevent the foreclosure of his ministry and personal home.

At 85 years old, Bakker, who leads the Praise the Lord (PTL) Network, revealed that his ministry is in dire financial straits, with only enough funds to continue operations for approximately one month.

This announcement was made during a recent episode of “The Jim Bakker Family Show,” aired on May 5, 2025, where Bakker candidly addressed his viewers about the looming threat of losing his ministry and personal residence.

In a heartfelt appeal, Bakker urged his viewers to donate $1,000 each, stating that if 1,000 people contributed, the ministry could be saved. “If they foreclose on this ministry, they will take my house too.

So, I will be on the street,” Bakker said, emphasizing the severity of his situation.

He framed his request with spiritual encouragement, quoting scripture: “I’ve never seen the righteous forsaken or his seed out begging for bread,” and pointing to his audience, saying, “That’s you!” He further added, “God will stand with you if you stand with him,” rallying his supporters to act swiftly.

The episode, filmed in the Ozark Mountains, also featured discussions on apocalyptic themes, with Bakker, his son Ricky Bakker, and co-host Mondo De La Vega addressing topics like the end times and foreign affairs alongside the ministry’s financial woes.

Bakker’s plea was amplified by posts on X, where users shared clips of his appeal, with one account noting, “Televangelist Jim Bakker needs 1,000 people to donate $1,000 each to save his ministry,” highlighting the urgency of his request.

Jim Bakker’s current financial crisis is not his first brush with controversy. In the 1980s, Bakker and his then-wife Tammy Faye Bakker built a televangelist empire through the PTL Network, which included the Heritage USA theme park.

At its peak, the network reached millions of viewers, and the theme park was a major Christian destination.

However, the empire crumbled following a series of scandals.

In 1987, it was revealed that Bakker had an affair with former aide Jessica Hahn, leading to public condemnation from peers like Jimmy Swaggart.

More significantly, in 1988, Bakker was indicted on federal charges of mail and wire fraud.

The Department of Justice alleged that funds raised for Heritage USA were misused, defrauding supporters.

Bakker was convicted in 1989 and sentenced to 45 years in prison, though his sentence was later reduced to eight years, and he was released in 1994.

These events marked a significant fall from grace for Bakker, who had been one of the most recognizable televangelists of the 20th century.

Since his release, Bakker has continued broadcasting through “The Jim Bakker Show,” which began airing in 2003. However, his post-prison career has not been without controversy.

In recent years, he has faced criticism for promoting questionable products, such as a fake COVID-19 cure, which led to legal action.

Additionally, posts on X have described Bakker as a “con artist” who continues to market “doomsday scams and phony miracle products,” reflecting ongoing skepticism about his motives.

Bakker’s plea comes at a time when his health is reportedly failing, adding a layer of vulnerability to his appeal.

At 85, the televangelist has faced significant health challenges, which he alluded to during his broadcast. Despite his controversial past, Bakker’s call for donations has sparked varied reactions.

Some X users expressed cynicism, with one commenting, “Jim Bakker—who once claimed hurricanes were God’s judgment on sinners—now says he needs a million bucks or he’ll be out on the street.

Apparently divine wrath has a mortgage.” Others, however, shared his plea without judgment, focusing on the urgency of his financial predicament.
