According to another scaving report from the Times of Israel, US President Donald Trump is “frustrated” by the ongoing war in Gaza, feels it is the last issue preventing prosperity in the Middle East and wants the Israeli government to “wrap it up,” according to a Tuesday report citing White House officials.
According to the report, published on the Axios news site, over the past two weeks, Trump pressured Israel to open crossings for humanitarian aid after assistance had been blocked since March.
The report quoted a White House official as saying Trump was “upset” by images of suffering Palestinian children and babies in the Strip due to the blockade and Israeli strikes, and that he “pressed the Israelis to reopen the gates.”
U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed frustration regarding the ongoing conflict in Gaza, viewing it as a significant barrier to achieving prosperity in the Middle East.
According to a report from Axios, White House officials indicated that Trump has urged the Israeli government to take decisive action to bring the conflict to a close.
In recent weeks, Trump has pressured Israel to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, which has been largely blocked since March.
On Monday, Israel allowed the entry of five aid trucks into Gaza for the first time in over 11 weeks, following growing international calls for action amid a worsening humanitarian crisis.
United Nations officials reported that, despite this small concession, the level of crisis necessitated the entry of a substantially larger amount of aid, and quickly.
Israel previously maintained that sufficient humanitarian assistance had reached Gaza during a six-week ceasefire and justified the blockade by claiming that Hamas had been misappropriating much of the aid. The blockade also aimed to pressure Hamas to release numerous hostages.
On Tuesday, the UN announced that Israel had approved the entry of an additional 100 trucks into Gaza. A White House official noted, “The president is frustrated about what is happening in Gaza.
He wants the war to end, he wants the hostages to come home, he wants aid to go in, and he wants to start rebuilding Gaza.”
The official emphasized that Trump sees a viable opportunity for peace and prosperity in the region, highlighting that the war in Gaza is the last significant conflict that needs resolution.
However, Israeli officials, such as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reportedly do not feel pressured by Trump regarding this matter. An Israeli official remarked that if Trump seeks a hostage and ceasefire agreement, he would need to exert more pressure on both sides involved in the conflict.
The White House reiterated Trump’s commitment to ending the conflict in Gaza.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized that the president is actively working to resolve both the situation in Gaza and other international conflicts, such as the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. She noted that Trump has made it clear to Hamas that he expects the release of all hostages.
The current conflict in Gaza was triggered by an invasion from Hamas on October 7, 2023, which resulted in approximately 1,200 fatalities and the abduction of 251 hostages taken into Gaza.
