A growing movement known as the “Tesla Takedown” is set to stage what organizers are calling their most significant demonstration to date, with plans for 500 protests at Tesla showrooms and Supercharger stations worldwide on March 29, 2025.
The campaign, fueled by opposition to Elon Musk’s controversial policies and influence, has gained momentum in recent weeks, drawing attention from major news outlets and sparking heated discussions about its goals and potential impact.
According to The Verge, the Tesla Takedown organizers announced their ambitious plans during a mobilizing call on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, aiming to target all 277 Tesla showrooms globally.
The protests are a direct response to Musk’s role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), where he has pushed for significant federal job cuts and the elimination of aid programs—moves that have angered many activists.
“Waving signs and chanting slogans, the so-called Tesla Takedown protesters have become a flashpoint for opposition to Musk’s actions,” The Verge reported, highlighting the movement’s growing visibility.
Reuters has also covered the escalating campaign, noting that the protests zero in on Tesla as “the brand at the heart of the business empire controlled by Musk.”
The news agency reported on March 6, 2025, that activists see targeting Tesla’s showrooms as a way to hit Musk where it hurts most—his bottom line.
“Take action at Tesla showrooms everywhere,” one organizer urged, reflecting the movement’s strategy to disrupt the company’s operations and public image.
The demonstrations are not a new phenomenon. CNN Business traced the origins of the Tesla Takedown back to February 15, 2025, when the first protest took place following a suggestion by sociologist Joan Donovan on Bluesky, an alternative to Musk’s X platform.
On March 1, 2025, CNN reported that protesters gathered at over 50 Tesla showrooms to rally against Musk’s government-slashing agenda, signaling the movement’s early traction. The international scope of the upcoming March 29 protests, however, marks a significant escalation.
The Economic Times provided further details on the protesters’ motivations, reporting on March 20, 2025, that activists believe “decreasing Tesla’s market value could force him out.”
The outlet emphasized the organizers’ commitment to peaceful demonstrations, despite rising tensions and threats from former President Donald Trump to label the activists as domestic terrorists.
“Organizers emphasize the peaceful nature of the protests,” the Economic Times noted, underscoring the delicate balance the movement is attempting to maintain.
While the protests aim to pressure Musk economically and politically, their broader impact remains uncertain.
CNN Business questioned whether the Tesla Takedown will significantly affect Tesla’s operations or stock value, stating, “It’s unclear whether the Tesla Takedown movement will have much of an impact on the company.”
Nevertheless, the campaign has already begun to influence public perception, with some Tesla owners, like Rainer Eckert of Wallingford, Washington, planning to sell their vehicles in protest, as reported by Reuters.
