AI Video of Trump Kissing Elon Musk’s Feet Broadcasted on U.S. Government Screens in Apparent Hack on Monday morning.
Employees at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) headquarters in Washington, D.C., were met with an unexpected and bizarre sight:
television screens throughout the building displayed an AI-generated video of President Donald Trump kissing the feet of billionaire Elon Musk, accompanied by the caption “LONG LIVE THE REAL KING.”
The incident, widely reported as a hack, has sparked outrage, amusement, and speculation about its origins amid growing tensions over Musk’s influence in the Trump administration.
According to The Washington Post, the video appeared on screens across multiple floors of the HUD building, including the cafeteria, shortly after federal workers returned to the office following an executive order ending remote work.
White House economics reporter Jeff Stein shared an image of the hacked screens on X, noting, “Someone apparently hacked the televisions at HUD today.”
Social policy reporter Rachel Leah Siegel added that the footage was seen “playing on TVs across the building,” based on accounts from multiple HUD insiders.
Vox journalist Rachel Cohen also documented the event, posting a video clip on X with the caption, “This video of Trump kissing Elon Musk’s feet is playing in the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development cafeteria this morning.”
Cohen’s source, reportedly from within HUD, confirmed the video ran on a loop, featuring Trump enthusiastically engaging with Musk’s feet—an image that Wired noted included an AI-generated telltale sign: Musk appeared to have two left feet.
The New York Post reported that the stunt left HUD employees stunned, with building staff scrambling to unplug televisions manually after failing to stop the broadcast remotely.
“It’s unclear who was responsible for the prank,” the outlet stated, though it pointed out that similar AI-generated content had circulated on social media in recent months.
HUD spokesperson Kasey Lovett condemned the incident, telling The Daily Mail, “Another waste of taxpayer dollars and resources. Appropriate action will be taken for all involved.”
The hack comes at a politically charged moment.
As Forbes reported, the Trump administration, with Musk leading the controversial Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has proposed slashing half of HUD’s workforce—approximately 4,000 employees—targeting roles tied to disaster recovery, rental subsidies, and fair housing programs.
This follows Musk’s recent directive, sent via an Office of Personnel Management email, demanding that federal workers submit a list of accomplishments from the previous week or face potential termination—a move that has drawn legal challenges and widespread criticism.
Rolling Stone framed the incident as a possible act of digital protest, noting that it coincided with the first day of Trump’s “return to office” policy.
“According to videos and photos circulated on social media, televisions at HUD’s central office were hijacked to play an AI-generated video of Trump making sweet, sloppy oral love to Musk’s bare feet,” the magazine wrote, adding that an employee could be heard in one clip saying, “Someone’s gonna get fired.”
The Daily Mail echoed this sentiment, reporting that the hacked screens greeted employees in the cafeteria with “artificially generated footage of President Trump kissing billionaire Elon Musk’s feet.”
The outlet suggested the phrase “LONG LIVE THE REAL KING” might be a jab at Trump’s recent Truth Social post proclaiming himself “KING” after taking credit for ending congestion pricing in New York City.
Meanwhile, The Independent highlighted the broader context of Trump and Musk’s relationship, which has faced intense scrutiny since Musk donated over $250 million to Trump’s 2024 campaign and assumed a powerful advisory role.
“The duo told Fox News host Sean Hannity last week that they believe media outlets are trying to drive a wedge between them,” the outlet noted, referencing Trump’s claim that Musk had personally called to dispel such rumors.
Speculation about the hack’s perpetrators remains rife. Mediaite suggested it could be the work of a disgruntled HUD employee, an external cyberattack, or even a troll capitalizing on public discontent with Musk’s DOGE-led cuts.
Wired reported that federal investigators have launched a probe to determine if the breach signals a larger cybersecurity threat, though no suspects have been identified as of midday Monday.
The incident has amplified debates over Musk’s unprecedented influence in the Trump administration.
As The New Republic pointed out, public polling indicates growing unease with Musk’s authority, even as voters support trimming federal spending.
Congressional Democrats have cheered the stunt, with the House Financial Services Committee posting on X, “Not all heroes wear capes,” according to the New York Post.
