Fires across the Los Angeles area have resulted in at least 16 fatalities and destroyed over 12,000 structures, according to officials. These fires have scorched more than 60 square miles and displaced thousands of residents.

 

According to CBS News, High winds that are fueling the flames are expected to intensify again on Sunday morning, with a reduction in strength throughout the day before picking up once more on Monday.

Currently, over 150,000 people in Los Angeles County are under evacuation orders, with more than 700 individuals seeking refuge in nine shelters. Curfews are in effect for the Palisades and Eaton fire zones from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

 

The response effort includes crews from California as well as eight other states, Canada, and Mexico. This coordinated effort involves more than 1,300 fire engines, 84 aircraft, and over 14,000 personnel, according to officials.

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Friday that firefighters from Mexico are on their way to assist in combating the devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles area. He mentioned that these firefighters will be joining more than 10,000 personnel already working on the ground.

 

The reinforcements are heading to help with the Eaton Fire, which currently has over 2,800 personnel actively fighting it. Newsom expressed gratitude for President @ClaudiaShein’s support in the ongoing efforts to manage the wildfires in Los Angeles, in a post shared on the social platform X.

 

According to The Arizona Republic, Claudia Sheinbaum stated at a news conference on Friday that Mexican officials had coordinated with President Biden and Governor Newsom regarding the deployment of assistance to Los Angeles.
