(UPDATE) The administration of President Donald Trump has provided an update regarding the drones that were observed flying over New Jersey since last fall.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated during her initial press briefing on Tuesday,
“Following thorough research and analysis, it has been determined that the drones operating in significant numbers over New Jersey were authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for research purposes and various other activities.
Additionally, a portion of these drones were operated by hobbyists, recreational flyers, and private individuals with an interest in drone operation.
The situation escalated due to heightened curiosity; however, it should be emphasized that these drones did not pose a threat.”
Details concerning the specific nature of the research conducted, as well as the “various other reasons” mentioned, were not provided. Furthermore, Leavitt did not clarify the identities of the owners and operators of the drones in question.
