TikTok announced on Sunday that it is in the process of restoring its operations in the United States following an executive order promised by President-elect Trump aimed at extending TikTok’s availability on Inauguration Day.
Reports from U.S. users indicated that access to the application was reinstated following a temporary blackout on Saturday, and by Sunday afternoon, a new message acknowledging Trump appeared for users.
According to Fox News, The message stated, “Welcome back! Thank you for your patience and support. As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the U.S.!”
Earlier on Sunday, Trump conveyed on TRUTH Social that he is “urging companies not to allow TikTok to remain inaccessible.”
He further indicated that an executive order would be issued on Monday to prolong the timeframe before the legal prohibitions take effect, enabling negotiations to safeguard national security.
“The order will also stipulate that there will be no liability for any company that assisted in keeping TikTok operational prior to my order,” Trump added.
He emphasized the importance of allowing Americans to experience the upcoming Inauguration as well as other significant events and discussions.
Trump is scheduled to be inaugurated around noon ET on Monday at the U.S. Capitol, officially commencing his term as the 47th president.
His statement on Sunday did not clarify the timeline for the extension or its potential duration.
Regarding the proposed national security agreement, Trump expressed his preference for “the United States to acquire a 50% ownership stake in a joint venture.”
He articulated that this arrangement would secure TikTok’s future, ensuring it remains under competent management while retaining accessibility. He stated, “Without U.S. endorsement, TikTok cannot operate.
With our support, its valuation could reach hundreds of billions, if not trillions, of dollars.”
Trump’s preliminary suggestion involves a joint venture that would enable the current owners, and/or prospective owners, to establish a partnership in which the U.S. holds a 50% stake.
In response to these developments, TikTok’s account on X, which is designated for policy updates, released a statement later on Sunday affirming: “In collaboration with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service.”
