A recent report from the Fiscal Policy Institute indicates that New York State is home to approximately 670,000 residents who are undocumented migrants.

This group includes about 42,300 undocumented workers in the restaurant industry and 48,500 in construction.

The report sheds light on the significant presence of migrant workers within New York’s underground economy.

  • Another 48,500 undocumented workers are part of the construction industry — 29,500 laborers, 12,800 carpenters and 6,200 painters.
