An Air Force fighter pilot is currently hospitalized following the crash of an F-35 jet at Eielson Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska, as dramatic footage reveals.
According to Fox News, The incident occurred on Tuesday at 12:49 p.m. local time, resulting in “significant aircraft damage,” according to a statement issued by the Air Force base.
Reports indicate that the pilot, whose identity remains undisclosed, successfully ejected from the aircraft and has been transported to Bassett Army Hospital for further evaluation.
The pilot is reported to be in stable condition.
Colonel Paul Townsend, commander of the 354th Fighter Wing, emphasized the importance of personnel safety, stating, “Our personnel are our most valuable resource, and we are dedicated to ensuring their safety and security.”
He further assured that the base will implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Colonel Townsend also noted during a press conference that it would be “premature” to speculate regarding the cause of the crash, although he confirmed that the pilot was performing standard operating procedures at the time of experiencing an “in-flight malfunction.”
The aircraft was engaged in a local training exercise when the pilot declared an in-flight emergency.
Officials have indicated that the crash site is “known to be” located on base within the designated perimeter.
