On Friday, Brazil issued a 72-hour deadline to social media giant Meta, requiring the company to clarify its fact-checking policy for the country and outline how it intends to protect fundamental rights on its platform.
Attorney General Jorge Messias informed journalists, “Due to the company’s lack of transparency, we will file an extrajudicial notice, and Meta must inform the Brazilian government of its actual policy for Brazil within 72 hours.”
