Hurricane Helene has left 4.4 million people without power and at least 30 dead across four states as it battered Georgia and moved into the Carolinas early on Friday.
As of Friday afternoon, the storm had been downgraded to a tropical depression and was located about 125 miles southeast of Louisville, Kentucky.
According to the Daily Mail, It was updated to Category 4 earlier in the evening and hit Florida’s Big Bend region just after 11pm with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph.
But the damage extended hundreds of miles to the north, with flooding as far away as North Carolina, where a lake used in scenes from the movie ‘Dirty Dancing’ overtopped a dam.
At least 15 people have died in Georgia and 17 in South Carolina due to the storm.
Helene had already spurred warnings and several states of emergencies, not only Florida, but all the way to Georgia and the Carolinas. More than 60million Americans in 12 states are under some form of advisory.
– Fifteen people have died, two of them in a tornado southeast of Macon.
– Eight people have died in total in the state.
– One person has been killed by a falling tree in the Big Bend’s Dixie County.
– A fallen sign killed one person on Interstate 4 in Tampa.
– There have been five deaths in Pinnellas County – at least two of them from drownings.
– A woman in her late 70s was found dead in her home in Tampa.
– Seventeen people have been reported dead in the state
– The dead included two firefighters responding to calls.
-Two additional deaths were reported in Newberry County.
– Coroners reported 13 other deaths -four in Greenville County, four in Aiken County, three in Spartanburg County and two in Anderson County.
– Two deaths have been reported from fallen trees in in Anderson County the state’s northwest
– A four-year-old girl has been killed in a car crash in Claremont.
– Another person has died after a tree fell on their home in Charlotte.
