According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 3.8-magnitude earthquake shook a small town north of Dyersburg early Thursday.
The tremor was reported just before 3:20 a.m. in Ridgely, Tenn., about a 2-hour drive north of Memphis.
It was felt as far north as Carbondale, Ill., and south as Covington, Tenn.

The magnitude is considered to be relatively weak. While the West Coast is known for its earthquakes, tremors are also common in the new Madrid seismic zone of the Mid-South.
There have been reports of injuries or damages in the area.
