Police said one person died and 22 people suffered gunshot wounds in a shooting Wednesday afternoon just after the Chiefs parade and rally ended at Union Station.
Children’s Mercy Hospital confirmed it was treating 12 patients, 11 of whom were children. The hospital stated that nine of those patients have gunshot wounds.
University Health Truman Medical Center officials said it was treating eight gunshot victims, two of whom are in critical condition. Four other people were treated for non-gunshot injuries. The Kansas City Police Department stated that three armed people were taken into custody for more investigation.
St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City received one gunshot patient in critical condition and three walk-in patients with injuries that were not life-threatening, spokesperson Laurel Gifford said.
The Kansas City Police Department stated officials are working to set up a hotline for tips specifically for information related to the shooting.
