Clergy with the House of Heretics say they will be at two locations on the Capitol Campus in Olympia on July 28 to perform free “un-baptisms” and gender-affirming rituals for the public.
They will be on the Legislative Building steps from 8 a.m. to noon and at the World War II memorial from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. In the news release, the group noted that they will be at the Capitol on the same day as Sean Feucht, a far-right musician who regularly ignored pandemic restrictions. Feucht will play a concert at the Capitol later in the day.
Feucht admitted earlier in the year that he is a Christian nationalist. The House of Heretics said in their news release that when Feucht plays at the Capitol, “he will be doing it on the Devil’s ground.”
The news release said they are providing their services before the concert to allow “equal recognition to people harmed by such beliefs.”
“These concepts of religion and gender assignment are forced upon millions of Americans every year, with no real consideration of what emotional damage it can cause to the individual,” said clergy member Priestess Luci Coffin in a news release.
“The House of Heretics clergy understands that self-empowerment and healing can come from breaking religious and socialized trauma. These rituals are designed to consider the needs, wishes, identities, and values of the individuals who choose to participate.”
The House of Heretics defines itself as an independent, “non-Theistic, Atheist, Religious Satanic community” in the Puget Sound area that “does not believe in any deities, supernatural forces, or divine intervention that we cannot scientifically prove exists” on its website.
