Sex robots will soon appear real and “alive” thanks to advances in artificial intelligence (AI), a former Google chief has claimed. Mo Gawdat, who was Chief Business Officer at Google X, the tech company’s secretive research arm, believes it will be relatively easy to convince people sex robots are alive given the way things are headed.

He said sex could become a virtual thing for many people in a “redesign of love and relationships”. Speaking on the YouTube channel Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu, Gawdat explained how sex occurs in the brain, adding that the physical side is not hard to simulate through technology. He said people would only need an Apple Vision Pro or a Quest 3 virtual reality headset to experience it.

“Just think about all of the illusions that we’re now unable to decipher,” he said. “But if we can convince you that this sex robot is alive, or that sex experience in a virtual reality headset or an augmented reality headset is alive, it’s real, then there you go.”

He continued: “If we think a few years further and think of Neuralink and other ways of connecting directly to your nervous system, and why would you need another being in the first place?

“You know, that’s actually quite messy. It’s all signals in your brain that you enjoy companionship, and sexuality, and if you really want to take the magic out of it, it can be simulated.

“Just like we can now simulate very, very easily how to move muscles. There are so many ways where you can copy the brain signals that would move your hand in a certain way and just give it back to your hand and it will move the same way.”

“Once again there is that huge debate of whether they are sentient or not. Does it really matter if they’re simulating sentientism so well?

“Does it really matter if the Morgan Freeman talking to you on the screen is actually Morgan Freeman or an AI generated avatar, if you’re convinced that it is Morgan Freeman. “We get lost in those conversations of are they alive are they sentient, doesn’t matter if my brain believes they are, they are.
