(OPINION) “Twilight” actress Rachelle Lefevre blasted Target for moving a Pride display to the back of a store amid nationwide complaints and backlash, tearfully adding in an Instagram video that “we’re not supposed to negotiate with the terrorists.”
Lefevre’s video, which she posted Thursday, shows her inside a Target and saying that a Pride display she saw in the store two days prior had been moved to the back of the store.
According to TheBlaze, The actress — who played the vampire Victoria in the first two “Twilight” movies — added that she was with her “nonbinary” 7-year-old child in the store two days before and that her child was delighted by the Pride display. The location of the store isn’t clear from the clip.
“Look, Mom, it’s Pride,” Lefevre said in the clip, imitating her child’s voice. “Look, they’re gonna celebrate me.” The actress then got choked up and added, “Because some people complained and threw some stuff to the ground …
they have moved the Pride section to the back of the store. So, the next time my 7-year-old comes to Target — or rather I can’t bring them here anymore, at least for the entire month of June, because … they … are gonna realize that they are being successful in trying to erase them.”
She added, “We’re not supposed to negotiate with the terrorists. We can do so much better than this.” Lefevre’s also wrote in her Instagram video post, “Congratulations, @target, your performative allyship just went next level.
And don’t anyone come back at me with ‘it was a security issue’ because this is a billion-dollar company — if they really care, they can hire extra security, but instead they chose to send the message that LGBTQ+ people aren’t worth protecting or fighting for.”
