NATO has warned that Russian president Vladimir Putin has mobilized the terrifying Poseidon nuclear submarine which is capable of drowning entire cities in radioactive tsunamis. An intelligence note sent to NATO countries warned the K-329 Belgorod nuclear submarine had been deployed, and on board is the underwater drone Poseidon.
The Russian weapon is a giant nuclear-capable torpedo that has the potential to cause radioactive tsunamis to coastline cities, with one Putin mouthpiece saying it has the potential to “plunge Britain into the depths of the sea”. Russian TV propagandist Dmitry Kiselyov told his viewers that the “underwater robotic drone Poseidon” could also cause a 1,640ft tsunami.
The 604ft-long Belgorod is said to be submerged in Arctic waters and is suspected of involvement in sabotaging the Nord Stream gas pipelines. But its placement in the Arctic is cause for concern, with worries over whether Belgorod is testing its missile capabilities and the super torpedo onboard. Deployment of the Belgorod, which can stay submerged for 120 days, comes as Putin amps up threats over the use of nuclear warheads in the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The Poseidon drone had previously been reported as having an unlimited range and speeds of more than 125mph. Admiral Igor Katasonov, chief analyst of the General Staff, said: “Unique characteristics of the Poseidon system will help the Navy to successfully combat aircraft carriers and strike groups of a potential adversary in any oceanic theatre of war and destroy shore infrastructure facilities.”
Expert H I Sutton was reported by La Reppubblica as saying: “It is a completely new type of weapon that will force Western navies to change their planning and develop new countermeasures.” Propagandist Kiselyov fumed during his broadcast and warned that there was “no way to stop this underwater drone.
